Protocol Biomass nearing final planning stages for proposed 415,000-ton/year wood pellet mill in Prescott, Ontario, with commercial operation anticipated in Q4 2015; company expects to produce 375,000 tons/year of wood pellets

LOS ANGELES , July 11, 2014 (Industry Intelligence Inc.) – Protocol Biomass Corp. is nearing the final planning stages for its proposed wood pellet mill in Prescott, Ontario, with commercial operation anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2015, said CEO Thomas Logan, Biomass Magazine reported on July 8.

The plant, which will be built on a 70-acre site in the Prescott industrial park, will have a maximum capacity of 415,000 tons of wood pellets per year, but the company expects to produce only 375,000 tons per year.

The industrial pellets themselves will consist of about 75% hardwood, while the remainder will consist of softwood. Protocol Biomass is planning to use about 80% round wood and 20% chips.

The pellet mill will employ 60 people and support 120 indirect jobs in the region, Logan told Pellet Mill Magazine.

Protocol Biomass expects to begin projects two and three after this first project gets off the ground, Logan added.
