In cooperation with the city authorities, Energie Steiermark refurbished and fully upgraded an existing district heating system so that it now uses biomass instead of natural gas for heat production. Energie Steiermark operates cogeneration plants in more than 20 cities in Slovakia, providing heat to over 200,000 people. Some 30% of the capacity uses biomass.
