Recycled containerboard prices in Poland head south amid slowdown in orders and abundant supply in Q1; spotty discounting began in February, with downslide in prices picking up steam by mid-March mood

LOS ANGELES , April 2, 2014 (Industry Intelligence Inc.) – Prices for recycled containerboard in Poland have been falling since spotty discounting began in February and this turned into full-scale price erosion by mid-March, according to sources, reported Euwid on April 2.

Toward the middle of March, one Polish producer of recycled corrugated case material cut prices. Other market players followed by lowering their prices, in some cases retroactively to March 1.

Demand for packaging did not meet expectations in February or March, observers indicated. Converters have been slowing down in recent weeks, Euwid reported.

Paper mill order books are insufficient and inventories are higher, while production capacity in Europe has increased slightly. This has put a damper on the attitude in the corrugated board and corrugated packaging sector.
