JOHANNESBURG and LONDON , March 25, 2014 (press release) – YBBS® premium board is Mondi’s new uncoated wood-free packaging solution.

The international packaging and paper group Mondi introduces YBBS® premium board, an innovative uncoated board with a 100% pure virgin fibre wood-free premium quality for a variety of packaging applications. YBBS® board is produced in Austria and fulfils the highest environmental and food safety standards, with board grades ranging from high white to ivory, or coloured boards to cupstock. All grades are ISEGA certified to comply with the BfR XXXVI regulation on direct food contact safety. YBBS® board also features a unified colour and print reproduction with two-sided printing.

The new portfolio comprises YBBS® premium white board, YBBS® premium ivory board, YBBS® premium colored board and YBBS® premium cupstock board. YBBS® premium white board is an uncoated virgin fibre wood-free board featuring a CIE whiteness of up to 170, unique haptics, and a strong environmental profile. Its uncoated natural ‘touch and feel’ makes it suitable for high value folding boxes and shopping bags, for example.

Free from optical brightening agents (OBA) and produced totally chlorine free (TCF), the YBBS® premium ivory board has a natural look and feel, and a strong environmental profile making it suitable for packaging both foodstuffs and non-food products, such as cosmetics or luxury goods.

YBBS® premium colored board is available in 39 standard colours and additional customised colours upon request. This coloured board enables the production of personalised packaging solutions. It features solid colour saturation due to pulp colouring, even colour distribution and no white edges and is certified for toy suitability according to EN71-3 and food contact safety according to BfR XXXVI.

Last but not least, YBBS® premium cupstock board is an uncoated 100% wood-free premium quality for hot and cold drinks as well as ice-cream cups and is available as a natural uncoated or polycoated board. According to the edge wick parameter YBBS® premium cupstock board offers a high level of proven resistance against liquid penetration in direct food contact and therefore fit for purpose with high performance runability and converting speed.

“Our YBBS® premium cupstock board features the highest attainable level of purity of uncoated cupstock board as we rely solely on virgin fibre pulp. This really sets us apart from the competition in Europe, as evident in the whiteness of the cups and portion packs,” says Johannes Klumpp.
