Russia had 22.6 million tonnes of grain in its reserves on the first of this month, 29.5% less than on the same date last year (32 million tonnes), the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported on Tuesday.
At agricultural organizations, not counting small agri-businesses, there was 11.7 million tonnes of grain on that date, a year-on-year decrease of 31%, and there was 10.9 million tonnes (27.7% less) at storage and processing organizations. Wheat inventory at these organizations was down from 15.029 million tonnes at 10.868 million tonnes. Of that wheat, 7.110 million tonnes was food-grade grain (11.007 a year earlier).
Rye reserves were down from 892,000 tonnes a year prior at 624,000 this year, with 520,000 tonnes (642,000) being food-grade rye.
Rosstat said that millet reserves on February 1 were about the same as a year ago at 34,000 tonnes. Buckwheat inventory was down from 92,000 at 76,000 tonnes, rice reserves were down from 210,000 tonnes at 131,000 tonnes, and barley stocks down to 1.354 million tonnes from 1.552 million tonnes.
On the other hand, Russia had 1.228 million tonnes of corn, up from 962,000 tonnes on February 1 last year. There was 159,000 tonnes of oats (149,000 tonnes) and 147,000 tonnes of other grains (140,000 tonnes).
