LOS ANGELES , October 9, 2012 () – Barnes & Noble Inc. CEO William Lynch said in an interview on CNBC that the company's preorders for its new Nook HD and HD+ e-readers are the highest it has seen, The Wall Street Journal reported Oct. 8.

The e-reader market includes rival products from Amazon.com Inc. and Apple Inc., but Lynch maintained that the market can accommodate multiple players. Lynch said the company's deal to sell the products at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is an advantage.

The new Nooks begin shipping later this month.
