Three different timber frame systems showcased in U.K. project to trial new building technologies, £8M development achieves sustainable homes rating

LOS ANGELES , June 22, 2012 (Industry Intelligence) – A U.K. project testing new building technologies in an £8-million (US$12.5 million) development has selected three different timber frame systems, timber industry magazine TTKJ reported on June 22.

The 60-unit development in Letchworth, England, also achieves ratings of Code Level 4 under the country's Code for Sustainable Homes.

Three timber frame systems were specified by housing association North Hertfordshire Homes and the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation for the Tomorrow’s Garden City plan, TTJ reported.

These include the timber/wood fiber board solution provided by Cygnum Timber Frame and Midlands Timber Engineering (MTE), the timber/Hemcrete system provided by Pinewood Structures, and the standard timber frame units supplied by MTE.

The timber/wood fiber board solution is a German reverse-wall system using wood fiber insulation boards, featuring a mix of Pavatex wood fiber insulation boards, according to TTJ's reported.
