LOS ANGELES , April 9, 2012 () – NewPage Corp. has announced US$/C$30-US$/C$60 per ton (US$/C$1.50-US$/C$3.00 per cwt) list price increases for the U.S. and Canada for its coated freesheet (CFS) and coated groundwood (CGW) paper grades, effective with May 1 shipments.

NewPage’s plan, announced on April 5, follows that of Verso Paper Co., which announced on April 4, except that NewPage did not announce a price hike for supercalendered (SC) paper.

In its letter to customers, NewPage said it was increasing its prices as a result of rising input and transportation costs.

It said the increases apply to all of its CFS and CGW grades, including but not limited to the following brands:

•Arborweb web, Orion web, Vision web ($30/ton)

•Dependoweb web, Escanaba web, Capri web, Consoweb web, Consoweb Advantage web, all Textbook grades ($60/ton)

The company said the increases apply to all basis weights, finishes, brand extensions, and all related private label grades.

On March 5, NewPage announced April 1 US$/C$60/ton uncoated freesheet paper roll products increases for the U.S. and Canada, also citing rising input and transportation costs. The affected grades included Ideal offset, Ideal reply card, and Ideal tablet.

NewPage, based in Miamisburg, Ohio, operates paper mills located in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, with a total capacity of approximately 3.5 million tons/year, according to the company’s website.
