Arkema to bring its 60,000-tonne/year capacity PA reactor back online Jan. 7-8 after taking it offline prior to holidays on weak demand

LOS ANGELES , January 5, 2012 (Industry Intelligence) – Arkema SA announced that it will bring its larger phthalic anhydride reactor at Chauny, France, back online during the weekend of Jan. 7-8, ICIS news reported Jan. 5, citing a company source.

The company suspended operations of its 60,000-tonne/year reactor prior to the Christmas holiday, ICIS noted, because of soft deman during the holidays. Producers have not been able to pass through increased costs from higher raw materials due to the slack demand.

European PA margins were slim in 2011, and due to upstream costs being high, they are expected to remain slim in the coming year.
