Much of Iowa is in need of rain and the dry conditions have led to a decline in the conditions of corn and soybeans across the state.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey says the exception is in southwest Iowa, which has been battered by severe weather and heavy rains in the past week.
Northey issued his weekly update on crop conditions Monday, saying 12 percent of corn was in poor or very poor condition; 25 percent is in fair condition with 63 percent being in good or excellent condition.
He says 12 percent of soybeans are in poor or very poor condition; 22 percent are in fair condition with 66 percent being in good or excellent condition.
