LOS ANGELES , June 17, 2011 () – International Paper Co.’s (IP) Vicksburg linerboard mill in Redwood, Mississippi, temporarily closed since May 8, is making strides toward restarting soon, a company spokesperson said today.

“Assuming power is restored to the mill at the end of this week as planned, we anticipate the mill will be ramped up by the end of the month,” said Amy Sawyer in an e-mail today.

The mill was without power following the recent floods that led to its closure.

The mill shut down after flood conditions forced road and rail closures. The floodwaters reached the edge of the woodyard but did not enter the mill itself.

Sawyer said the mill’s employees have been preparing the mill for the restart, and that there has also been much work toward getting roads reopened and utilities restored to the area as floodwaters recede.

The Vicksburg mill has an annual production of about 560,000 tons per year of unbleached kraft linerboard, more than 10% of IP’s total containerboard production and roughly 2% of U.S. linerboard supply, Deutsche Bank forest and paper products industry analyst said in a research note in May 2008.
