LOS ANGELES , September 9, 2013 () – Miramichi Lumber Products Inc. is reopening for four weeks after closing on July 26 citing a shortage of logs from Crown land, CBC News reported on Sept. 5.

The company's CFO Hal Raper said it had been difficult to keep a smooth flow of work for employees without sawlogs, adding that the situation was not healthy for the business.

The mill reopened in May after a year's closure, but closed again in July impacting 110 jobs. This time, the company will recall 60 workers, CBC reported.

When the mill closed in July, the company blamed a shortage of wood, saying it was only receiving 40% of the volume it had expected from Crown lands. The comments sparked a response from the province's natural resources minister Bruce Northrup, who refused to increase the mill's Crown wood allocation. According to Northrup, the company had harvested and had delivered to its mill 5,228 cubic meters of its 126,488 m3 allocation, leaving more than 120,000 m3 of standing wood available for harvest and processing.
