Catalyst Paper announces July 1 price increases for coated groundwood paper grades, up US$30-US$40/ton in US and C$33-C$44/tonne in Canada; company previously announced July 1 price hike for supercalendered grades

LOS ANGELES , May 29, 2013 () – Catalyst Paper Corp. today announced supercalendered (SC) paper price increases for the U.S. and Canada, effective with July 1 shipments.

The affected brands and U.S. and Canada price increases are as follows:

•Pacificote: US$30/ton (US$1.50/cwt), C$33/tonne

•Electracote Brite: US$40/ton (US$2/cwt), C$44/tonne

•Electracote: US$40/ton (US$2/cwt), C$44/tonne

Catalyst Paper said the increase applies to all brightnesses, finishes and basis weights.

On May 2, Catalyst Paper announced July 1 price increases of US$50/ton (US$2.50/ton) and C$55/tonne for its supercalendered (SC) brands Electracal, which is an SCA grade, and Electraprime, which is an SCB grade.

A number of other North American printing and writing paper producers have announced July 1 price hike plans.

Catalyst Paper is based in Richmond, British Columbia. It produces 866,000 tonnes/year of specialty printing papers at its mills in Crofton, Port Alberni and Powell River, all in British Columbia, according to the company website.

Catalyst also produces 270,000 tonnes/year of newsprint at its Crofton mill.

Also, its Crofton mill has a northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp capacity of 393,000 tonnes/year, of which 350,000 tonnes/year are designated as market pulp, with the remaining 43,000 tonnes being consumed internally.
