Voith Paper announced on May 13 that Century Pulp & Paper's operation in Lalkua, India, has ordered a 90,000 tonnes/year paper machine for the production of writing and printing papers.
Voith said that the PM 4, which produces paper at a speed of nearly 833 m/min (2.730 fpm), is scheduled for start-up in January 2007. For the PM4, the used virgin fiber is mainly indigenous bagasse, a waste product from the production of sugar from sugar cane, according to Voith. Only 10% of imported pulp is used. Century Pulp & Paper is one of the largest paper producing companies in India, according to Voith. Editor's Note -- An original press release from Voith Paper is below: HELSINKI, May. 13, 2005 -- At the end of March 2005, Century Pulp & Paper in Lalkua, located at the south foothills of the Himalaya at the Nepalese border, ordered a complete paper machine for the production of writing and printing papers. The PM 4 with a width of 6 m (240 inches) and a length of around 100 m is to produce approximately 90.000 t p.a. at a speed of nearly 833 m/min (2.730 fpm). The used virgin fibre is mainly indigenous bagasse, a waste product from the production of sugar from sugar cane. Only 10 % of imported pulp is used.
