Mississauga, Ontario-based blow molder Axium Plastics LLC is planning a major expansion at its plant in New Albany, Ohio, and will shift some production there from its plants in Mississauga and Atlanta, reported Plastics News on Dec. 21.
The New Albany plant will be expanded with a new 900,000-square-foot addition, at a cost of US$8.9 million, said Scott McAfee, a spokesperson for the city of New Albany. The 110,000-sq.-ft. plant was built in 2011.
Employment at the plant will increase by 40 jobs with an estimated payroll of $1.2 million, said McAfee by phone. The plant’s workforce now totals about 130 people, Plastics News reported.
The plant is located in an area of New Albany that serves as a “personal care and beauty campus” and includes such packaging companies as Accell Inc. and VeePak Inc., which cater to similar customers, said McAfee.
Axium officials could not be reached for comment. The company produces rigid plastic containers that are sold to the personal care, cosmetics and food and automotive industries.
The city of New Albany has awarded Axium a 15-year, 100% property tax abatement for the expansion project. The company received the same benefits for its initial $16.2-million investment, Plastics News reported.
