The release of preliminary results in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s (DOC) countervailing duty investigation of imports of hardwood plywood from China has been postponed until Feb. 26, reported Furniture Today on Dec. 10.

The DOC was due to give its preliminary findings into the probe sometime this month. A separate investigation continues into antidumping claims of unfair pricing in the case, and preliminary results of that are expected to be released in early March.

U.S. producers requested that the DOC postpone the preliminary results of its countervailing duty probe, which will determine how much the Chinese government is subsidizing its hardwood plywood plants, Furniture Today reported.

Any subsidization discovered in the investigation could lead to the DOC imposing duties on the imported products. The duties would be paid by importers of record, although they would be assigned to the manufacturers.

Last month, the U.S. International Trade Commission found in its preliminary probe that U.S. companies were injured by Chinese manufacturers that sold their products in the U.S. at unfair prices, undercutting U.S. producers, reported Furniture Today.

The DOC has already estimated that the dumping margin on hardwood plywood and decorative plywood imports from China were 298.36% and 321.68%, respectively, in addition to subsidies, according to IndustryIntel.com archives.

The U.S. government began to investigate antidumping duties and countervailing duties in the case after the Coalition for Fair Trade of Hardwood Plywood filed a petition on the matter Oct. 18, IndustryIntel.com archives indicate.
