WINNIPEG, Manitoba , October 22, 2012 () – Rising paper costs will claim a Winnipeg manufacturer when the Red River Packaging plant closes its doors for the final time Dec. 31.

Charlene Matheson of the Communications, Energy and Paper Workers union says 114 union members will be out of jobs unless a new owner steps forward and is willing to keep the plant going.

She says in the meantime, union and management are negotiating severance packages to wind down the business.

Red River Packaging is part of a North American paper packaging manufacturing and distribution company based in Portland, Ore.
