Northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp producer Mercer International Inc. advised buyers early this week that it has lowered its Aug. 1 price in North America to US$850/tonne, according to an industry source.
As previously reported, on Friday, July 20, Canfor Pulp LP led the announcements of the $850/tonne price, down $30/tonne. This was followed separately on Monday, July 23, by Fibrek Inc., Resolute Forest Products, and West Fraser Timber Co. On July 24, Domtar Corp. made its announcement of the same plan.
The Vancouver, British Columbia-based Mercer produces NBSK exclusively and has a total capacity of approximately 1.5 million tonnes/year at mills located near Castlegar (the Celgar mill), British Columbia, near Stendal, Germany, and near Blankenstein, Germany.
