NORTON SHORES, Michigan , June 8, 2012 () – Authorities in western Michigan have released the name of a 46-year-old man who was crushed to death by a press at a plant that makes Styrofoam packaging materials.

The accident happened about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at a NuPak Solutions plant in the Muskegon suburb of Norton Shores.

Norton Shores Fire Chief David Purchase said Thursday that the victim was Thomas A. Carty Jr. of Muskegon County's Laketon Township.

Purchase says Carty tried to dislodge a part from a press, which activated while he was working on it. The worker was dead at the scene.

The fire chief says the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death.
