– U.S. beef trade with the European Union will not be too affected by reported case of mad cow disease in U.S., as no meat has entered the food chain, according to Rabobank International red-meat analyst Albert Vernooij, Bloomberg reported April 25.
Vernooij added that, in Europe, people were used to seeing occasional cases of atypical bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or BSE, crop up, and that the U.S. testing procedures work.
Vernooij noted that the European Union imports only a very small amount of U.S. beef in any case.
