LOS ANGELES , April 24, 2012 (Industry Intelligence) – Industry statistics show that restaurants featuring attractive, scantily clad female servers are the fastest-growing segment of the overall U.S. restaurant sector, The Tennessan reported April 22.

The trend is being driven primarily by increasing societal acceptance of open sexual expression, a rebellion against the prevailing political correct ethos in society, and consumers’ desire for something that is different, exciting and new, analysts say. Demographics have also played a role, as baby boomers’ children hit their 20s and 30s and become more secure in their careers.

Former Morgan Keegan & Co. restaurant analyst Bob Derrington said that a subset of young men are seeking entertainment in addition to food.

The sports-heavy, scantily clad attractive female server restaurant niche has been the subject of ongoing controversy including lawsuits, accusations of copycat marketing tactics, and criticism from the surrounding community regarding the female servers’ outfits.

Derrington predicted that brands within this niche would attempt to expand and increase their market share.

Market research firm IbisWorld said that the restaurant industry as a whole experienced a 6.8% drop in sales because of the recession. Since then, industry revenues have demonstrated modest gains, while sports-heavy restaurant chains with scantily clad attractive female servers have seen much stronger sales gains.
