Truck owners can apply now for a free plug-in kit for shorepower service.
Shorepower Technologies and Cascade Sierra Solutions are jointly administering a federally funded grant program intended to boost the use of key-off systems.
To encourage idle reduction, 1,300 free connector kits have been made available. The kits allow drivers to plug into power pedestals at truck stops and other locations, and they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Fleets are limited to 25 connector kits per fleet. The kits consist of an electrical receptacle for mounting onto a truck exterior, a cab-interior 120 volt AC outlet and a wiring harness. It also includes an on-off switch and a ground fault circuit interrupter.
Shorepower Technologies offers plug-in service at $1 an hour, and is installing plug-in sites at 50 truck stops in the United States.
Installation of the kits can be performed by an ASE-certified technician or an authorized service center. Participants in the program must agree to use Shorepower Technologies’ service within 12 months of installing the kit.
