Tembec Inc. today announced that will increase the list prices for all of its grades of hardwood high-yield pulp by US$30 per tonne in Europe and by $35/tonne in Asia, effective March 1.
All of Tembec’s high-yield pulp production is hardwood.
The company did not specify its new pricing levels.
High-yield pulp is also known as bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp, or BCTMP.
On Feb. 8, Rottneros AB in Sweden announced that it will raise its March 1 CTMP price in Europe by €30/tonne.
And on Feb. 17, Canfor Taylor announced a price increase for China, effective immediately, of $20/tonne for 75-bright softwood bleached BCTMP, to $570/tonne.
For Feb. 1, a number of BCTMP producers announced $20/tonne increases for Asia. Hardwood pulp producers didn’t state their new prices. Some of the softwood BCTMP pulp producers said their new price for China and/or Asia of 75-bright softwood would be $550/tonne.
In his Market Pulp Monthly report, industry consultant Brian McClay said the January price in China of 75-bright softwood BCTMP was $530/tonne, up $10/tonne, and that the 80-bright aspen BCTMP price was $535/tonne, up $5/tonne. He said the January price in Europe of 85-bright aspen BCTMP was $620-$640/tonne, up from December’s $580-$590/tonne.
Tembec, based in Montreal, produces 805,000 tonnes per year of high-yield pulp, which it makes from aspen and maple species at three mills in Canada, including Temiscaming, Quebec (315,000 tonnes/year), Matane, Quebec (250,000 tonnes/year), and Chetwynd, British Columbia (240,000 tonnes/year).
