Value of U.S. poultry, egg exports in 2011 rises 17% to record-high US$5.1B as exports of chicken, turkey hit record levels; overall poultry shipments rose 17% to $4.91B, volume of broiler meat exports excluding chicken feet rose 3% to 3.2 million tonnes

LOS ANGELES , February 16, 2012 (Industry Intelligence) – According to data provided by the US. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service, the value of U.S. poultry exports in 2011 rose 17% to a record-high US$5.1 billion as exports of chicken and turkey hit record levels, The Journal of Commerce reported Feb. 15.

During this period, the value of overall poultry shipments increased 17% to $4.91 billion.

Excluding chicken feet, the volume of broiler meat exports rose 3% to 3.2 million tonnes, while the value of these exports increased 17% to $3.6 billion.

The volume of chicken feet exported — 90% of which is sent to Hong Kong — rose 3% to 346,048 tonnes, while the value increased 8% to $502.1 million.

The volume of turkey exports rose 21% to 319,015 tonnes, while the value of these exports increased 25% to $599.5 million.

The volume of egg and egg product exports rose 7% to 220 million dozen equivalents, the second-highest recorded export volume in the U.S. for this type of product.

The U.S. Poultry and Egg Export Council reported that poultry exports to Cuba, Russia and Ukraine declined while exports to Angola, Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Iraq and Mexico increased.
