LOS ANGELES , February 8, 2012 () – Northwest Hardwoods in Arlington, Washington, is to close on Thursday because of a raw material shortage and low demand for its products, according to a report by The Herald.

The closure is the second to be announced in Snohomish County in a month, after workers at the Seattle-Snohomish Mill were notified in late January their mill would close in March.

The Seattle-Snohomish Mill closure affects 50 workers, while around 60 are employed at Northwest Hardwoods.

VP of human resources Brian Narramore said Northwest Hardwoods had offered more than half the workers a similar position at other facilities owned by the Tacoma-based company, but some were were unwilling to relocate their families.

Narramore confirmed that Thursday was the last production day and indicated the mill could be offered for sale.
