Rexam unveils larger airless tube packaging aimed at body, sun care products; U.K. company expects market for airless packaging to grow at 15% annually

LOS ANGELES , October 26, 2011 (Industry Intelligence) – Rexam PLC unveiled a larger airless tube packaging, which is intended for the body and sun care segments, at last week’s Luxe Pack Monaco event, reported CosmeticsDesign.com on Oct. 25.

The system incorporates the LX 500 pump into a tube with 500 µi dosing capacity that is suited to body and sun care products, said Christine Gichuki, marketing communications manager for the London-based packaging producer.

The market for airless packaging is growing at 15% a year currently, according to Rexam.

Demand for the tubes has expanded beyond the facial skin care segment into other sub-categories as formulations change to include various active ingredients.

Airless packaging apparently provides the additional protections to ensure that the increasingly more sophisticated formulas in skin care products remain stable, CosmeticsDesign.com reported.

Rexam’s airless tubes not only ensure formula stability, but also can run on existing high-speed filing lines and handle larges dosages of thick and sticky product, said Virginia Lemuunier, product manager for Rexam’s personal care division.

Supply chains are also shortened with the airless tubing systems, she said.

Three levels of protection -- including monolayer, coextruded and laminated -- are offered in the larger airless tubes, based on the safety requirements of the formula, reported CosmeticsDesign.com.
