Mississippi's broiler chick placement down 7% year-over-year to 14.4 million for the week ending Oct. 15, USDA says; hatcheries set 17 million broiler-type eggs, down 9%

JACKSON, Mississippi , October 19, 2011 (press release) – Hatcheries in Mississippi set 17,094,000 eggs for broiler chicks during the week, 3 percent above the set last week, but 9 percent below the set for the corresponding week a year ago.

There were 14,472,000 broiler chicks placed in the state, 5 percent below the set last week, and 7 percent below the placements for the corresponding week a year ago. Cumulative placements for the year total 660,022,000 chicks, 5 percent below this time last year.
