LOS ANGELES , October 6, 2011 () – Cow's-milk facial masks, hand treatments and body packs are being used to improve skin at the Hotel Tanneck spa in Fischen, Germany, Cosmetics design-europe.com reported Oct. 6.

The fresh milk contains Vitamins A, B and E, which help regulate and regenerate imperfect skin, said hotel manager Patricia Fischer-Swegler.

The spa frequently combines the cow's milk with honey, herbs and olive oil. The resulting curd goes to treatments such as hand cream, for example.

Cow's milk yogurt is used at the spa in full body packs, and buttermilk to prevent dry skin and as an overall beauty treatment. The hotel has patented the term “milchwell,” referring to wellness from milk, Cosmetics design-europe reported.

The calcium in milk products can have a beneficial calming effect on the skin, as milk products seem to replenish fats and their vitamin E to smooth the skin, said dermatologist Nadine Peukert from Muenster, Germany.

However, Peukert warned that milk baths and masks are low in the active ingredients and users should not expect dramatic results, reported Cosmetics design-europe.
