Proposed US$5.35M land sale to Menards for new store in Cheyenne, Wyoming, collapses due to property title complications

LOS ANGELES , September 29, 2011 (Forestweb) – The sale of city land to Menards for a new store location was voted down by the City Council in Cheyenne, Wyoming two weeks ago, the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle reported Sept. 27.

Council members Jim Brown and Georgia Broyles had planned to reconsider the matter on Monday but changed their minds due to conflicts over the title of the property that continue to keep the city from selling land it doesn’t completely own.

Ownership of the proposed 24-acre property remains to be settled as the County Commission claims it owns 56% of the land.

The commission recently withdrew its claim on the property with the condition that it be used for parks and recreation purposes.

According to City Attorney Dan White, the conditionality is included in the title insurance company’s listing and this remains a hurdle for the sale. The county needs to waive its claim and give the city unconditional ownership of the property, White said.

Brown hopes the company remains interested in opening a new store in Cheyenne despite these events.
