U.S. production of major plastic resins totaled 6.6 billion pounds during July 2011, an increase of 2.0 percent compared to the same month in 2010, according to statistics released today by the American Chemistry Council (ACC). Year-to-date production was 44.4 billion pounds, a 1.0 percent increase compared to the same period in 2010. Sales and captive (internal) use of major plastic resins totaled 6.4 billion pounds during July 2011, a decrease of 3.4 percent from the same month one year earlier. Year-to-date sales and captive use was 43.6 billion pounds, a 0.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2010.
The figures are based on primary data for selected major plastics materials as compiled by Veris Consulting, Inc., for ACC’s Plastics Industry Producers’ Statistics Group.
