Biodiesel is now available via truck and rail from Renewable Energy Group®’s (REG) newly acquired facility, REG Albert Lea, LLC.
The first truckload of biodiesel exceeded ASTM D6751 and was picked up this morning for the Trail’s Travel Center truck stop in Albert Lea along I-35.
“We are proud to offer regional petroleum distributors, coops, terminals and petroleum refiners high quality biodiesel from the REG Albert Lea facility immediately,” said Gary Haer, VP Sales and Marketing at Renewable Energy Group.
“We are offering REG-9000/1 biodiesel ideal for harvest tank fills and meeting demand created by Minnesota’s B5 requirement and the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS2).”
Customers have the option to pick up either B99 or B100 at the 30 million gallon per year REG Albert Lea production facility located at 15200 780th Ave. Albert Lea, Minn.
“Bringing a commercial-scale biorefinery online after such a long production lapse can be a challenging task.
"However the REG team brought this facility online quickly and exceeded ASTM 6751 specifications on its first lot of biodiesel,” said Brad Albin, VP Manufacturing.
“With nearly 15 years of production start-up experience, REG’s technology and process team is among the best in the nation.”
REG was the general contractor and manager for the 30 mmgy refined vegetable oil feedstock biodiesel plant which originally began production in April 2005.
With immense multi-feedstock technology and upgrade experience, REG officials noted the facility could be upgraded in order to process a wide variety of lower cost natural fats and oils including used cooking oil, inedible corn oil from ethanol production, and high free fatty acid materials.
The facility employs more than 20 full-time, green collar jobs; five of which were former SoyMor Biodiesel, LLC employees.
The REG Albert Lea, LLC facility brings the REG owned/operated total to more than 210 million gallons.
REG is the largest biodiesel producer in the United States.
