India oilseed plantings up 8% year-over-year to nearly 3.2 million hectare, sugarcane up 4.9% to 5.1 million hectare, government says

NEW DELHI , July 1, 2011 (press release) – As per data received from States, rice has been sown in 41.37 lakh hectare as on today. Sowing of kharif rice is still at preliminary stage. Higher area coverage has been reported from Haryana (3.9 lakh hectare), Odisha (4.56 lakh hectare) and Uttar Pradesh (2.78 lakh hectare).

Oilseeds have been sown in 31.47 lakh hectare which is 2.36 lakh hectare more than the last year on this date

Sugarcane has been planted in 51.38 lakh hectare so far.  Compared to last year, the sugarcane acreage in the country is 2.38 lakh hectare higher on this date. Higher area has been reported from Uttar Pradesh (1.91 lakh hectare) and Maharashtra (0.72 lakh hectare)
