The Grocery Manufacturers Association spent $900,000 in the first quarter to lobby on food safety, advertising and other business issues, according to a recent disclosure report.
That is down from the $1 million spent in the first quarter last year by the trade group — whose members include major food companies such as ConAgra Foods Inc. and Hormel Foods Corp.
In addition to Congress, the group lobbied the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration and more during the January through March quarter, according to the report filed April 19 with the House clerk's office.
