The International Dairy Foods Association spent $325,000 in the first quarter lobbying on safe transportation, dietary guidelines and other issues, according to a recent disclosure report.
That is more than the $150,000 the group spent in the first quarter last year or the $270,000 it spent in the fourth quarter of 2010.
The trade group for the nation's dairies and their marketers and suppliers also lobbied on food safety and nutrition policy in January through March.
Its members include Dean Foods Co., Lifeway Foods Inc. and ConAgra Foods Inc.
Besides Congress, the group lobbied the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Executive Office of the President and the Environmental Protection Agency, according to the report it filed April 19 with the House clerk's office.
