LOS ANGELES , May 11, 2011 () – A range of thermoformed trays made from amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET) has been developed by Holstebro, Denmark-based food packaging firm Faerch Plast AS in its bid to expand further into the food packaging market, reported Packaging Europe on May 11.

The trays, which can be used at temperatures ranging from -40 degrees Celsius to +70 degrees Celsius, are ideal for sliced meats because they help extend their shelf life by preserving freshness, according to the article. The trays can also be used for foods ranging from bakery and confectionary to dairy and salad products, it added.

APET provides the trays with “glass quality clarity” and are “extremely durable, with good impact strength,” said Joe Iannidinardo, managing director of Faerch Plast UK, Packaging Europe reported.

The market is increasingly demanding these types of packages and food producers in Europe have been gradually “moving away from the traditional deep-drawn trays for sliced meats,” added Iannidinardo.

Consumers also are increasingly basing their purchasing decisions on “visual perception,” he said, reported Packaging Europe.

The trays are available in various shapes, sizes and colors and can either be sealed with lids or packed in resealable bages.
