SEVILLE, Spain , December 22, 2010 (press release) – The voice of the European bioethanol industry in Brussels was unified on the 3rd November with the official launch in Geneva of ePURE, the European Producers' Union of Renewable Ethanol.

ePURE is a merger of two former European bioethanol associations: UEPA and eBIO. Like eBIO, ePURE is an industry association governed by bioethanol producers. But whereas eBIO only addressed bioethanol for fuel, the scope of ePURE's work, like that of UEPA, covers all uses of bioethanol, including beverages and industrial applications as well as fuel.

Any EU producer of bioethanol is welcome to become a member of ePURE. Other companies and organisations with a close relationship to the industry are also encouraged to join. All producers are automatically accepted into the Board of Directors, which has the responsibility of deciding policy.

An Executive Committee of ten producers is appointed annually to provide strategic advice and guidance for the Board. One of these seats is dedicated to any company that is solely working with second generation technology.

Abengoa Bioenergy has been appointed to serve in the first Executive Committee of ePURE, along with the following companies: Tereos (France, president); CropEnergies (Germany, vice-president), Cristal Union (France), Ensus (UK), Royal Nedalco (The Netherlands) Lantmannen Agroetanol (Sweden), Alco Biofuel (Belgium), Enviral (Czech Republic) and Inbicon (Denmark).

As a result of this merger, the European bioethanol industry is now perfectly positioned to present itself and its views to Europe.
