King County Woodland Property Transfer Adds Nearly 100 Acres to Popular Conservation, Recreation Area The State Board of Natural Resources has unanimously approved the transfer of State Trust land to expand theWest Tiger Mountain Natural Resources Conservation Area (NRCA). The transfer on the north end of Tiger Mountain State Forest in King County will add 99.08 acres of woodland for conservation, habitat protection, and low-impact recreation. The transferred area also contains portions of Soderman Creek, which has been identified as some of the best Steelhead habitat on the Raging River. The transfer will allow NRCA staff to better monitor and protect this sensitive ecological area. Natural Resources Conservation Areas protect outstanding examples of native ecosystems, habitat for endangered, threatened, and sensitive plants and animals, and scenic landscapes. More than 127,981 acres are conserved in 39 Washington state NRCAs. The transferred property is valued at $1,290,000 and is currently designated to produce revenue for trust accounts managed by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The transfer is part of DNR’s Trust Land Transfer (TLT) process and is fully funded by the legislature. This program transfers economically underperforming lands with high ecological values and public benefits. Many transferred parcels become parks, open spaces, nature preserves, or similar designations. For technical information about the West Tiger Soderman Transfer, visit this link.
