The Conservation Fund, America’s leader in land protection, is pleased to announce the promotion of Stacy Funderburke to Georgia State Director. Since 2009, Funderburke has worked out of the nonprofit’s Atlanta office where he’s served as both regional counsel and a real estate manager, spearheading nearly 200 conservation projects across Georgia and Alabama.
Funderburke’s portfolio of work includes many impactful and high-profile projects in Atlanta, including the protection of the former Chattahoochee Brick Company site, the Atlanta Beltline, Lake Charlotte Nature Preserve and the Urban Food Forest at Browns Mills. Much of Funderburke’s work involves the critical purchase of at-risk, yet underutilized properties in vulnerable downtown communities for the creation of parks and greenspaces through The Conservation Fund’s Parks with Purpose program. He also leads the Fund’s Working Farms Fund program, which aims to protect farmland surrounding metropolitan areas while helping next-generation farmers work towards affordable farm ownership.
The Conservation Fund’s President and CEO Lawrence Selzer said: “Stacy Funderburke is a proven leader. With his vision and natural ability to bring people together, he already has established a remarkable legacy of conservation in Georgia. As our new State Director, Stacy will build on the terrific leadership of Andrew Schock, who is now in a regional role, to accelerate our efforts to protect Georgia’s magnificent natural, cultural and historic resources. From urban parks to working forests and productive farms, Stacy has a bold vision for conservation, and I am excited to see what he will accomplish.”
In April 2023, Atlanta Business Chronicle recognized Funderburke’s work to protect the Chattahoochee Brick Company site as the most influential revitalization effort in Atlanta real estate. Funderburke was one of the founding members of Atlanta Mayor Andre Dicken’s Greenspace Advisory Council and serves on the Board of Directors of Candler Park Conservancy. He is also a talented photographer and an avid world traveler.
