BIRMINGHAM, Alabama , May 17, 2022 (press release) –

Resource Management Service, LLC (RMS), one of the world's leading managers of forest investments for institutional investors, announced today that it has hired forest transaction specialist Scott T. Mooney to head up the firm’s global acquisition sourcing efforts.

Mooney comes to RMS from Conservation Resource Partners of Exeter, New Hampshire. His title is Senior Vice President, Acquisitions, and he assumed his new responsibilities with RMS on May 9. He will report to RMS President and CEO, Alex Hinson.

“We are extremely pleased to have Scott join RMS in this very important and highly strategic role,” said Hinson. “He brings more than 25 years of experience to his new assignment – having worked in a variety of forestry operations, investment analysis and transaction management roles with two other timberland investment management organizations (TIMOs), a public timber REIT, a prominent forest management consultancy, and a major paper products manufacturing enterprise.”

Hinson said Mooney’s efforts will focus on sourcing, analyzing and closing transactions for current and future RMS clients and helping the firm grow by increasing assets under management. His initial focus will be on identifying attractive investment opportunities in the major timber-producing regions of the United States – the Southeast, Northeast, Lake States and Pacific Northwest – but the scope of his work will be global and will include other parts of the world where RMS currently invests, has invested in the past, and where it expects to see interesting strategic opportunities develop in the future.

During his career, Mooney has helped source and close a total of 75 forest transactions for institutional and high-net-worth investors. These transactions have taken place in every region of the United States and have encompassed nearly 2.8 million acres valued at more than $3.3 billion.

Mooney most recently served as Managing Director of Conservation Resource Partners, where he oversaw the management of four forest investment funds with assets valued at approximately $800 million. In this capacity, he directed all operations and transactional activities and had fund-level profit and loss responsibilities. As a member of the firm’s executive team, he also played a key role in Conservation Resource Partners’ client relations efforts and helped set strategic direction for the business. He joined the firm in 2007 and served as Vice President of Acquisitions and Dispositions until 2019. He held a similar title and had similar responsibilities with Plum Creek Timber and Forest Investment Associates from 2000 to 2007. Earlier in his career, Mooney was a timberland investment analyst with Canal Forest Resources (Now American Forest Management) and served as a resource forester with Union Camp in Waycross, Georgia.

Mooney is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Warnell School of Forest Resources, where he earned both a Master’s of Forest Business Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resources. He currently serves on the boards of the Forest Landowners Association and the Harley Langdale Jr. Center for Forest Business at the University of Georgia.
