WASHINGTON , January 14, 2022 (press release) –

The Land Trust Alliance, a national land conservation organization working to save the places people need and love by strengthening land conservation across America, today announced that Jennifer Miller Herzog will serve as its chief program officer, a newly created role focused on strategic coordination of programmatic work across multiple departments.

“A committed conservationist and a respected leader, Ms. Miller Herzog has been part of the Land Trust Alliance since 2016,” said Andrew Bowman, the Alliance’s president and CEO. “She knows the Alliance, our members and our community. Moreover, she’s an intuitive manager who understands and champions long-standing programmatic support for our land trust members alongside new initiatives focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, community-centered conservation and expanded partnerships with constituencies outside of the land conservation field. She’s the ideal person for this role.”

Miller Herzog most recently served as Eastern division director of field programs at the Alliance, where she has worked in different capacities since 2016. As the Eastern division director, she guided strategic, program and financial planning for the division; created and monitored fundraising and program budgets totaling more than $6 million in 2022; engaged with donors, foundations and agency funders; and ensured sound grant management and grant program administration.

“I couldn’t be more excited about serving in this new role for the Alliance and our land trust members,” said Miller Herzog. “Building on our strong, established programs in conservation initiatives, field services, and education and training, this position creates an opportunity for the Alliance to provide new leadership and resources to support community-centered conservation. This approach to land conservation is the leading edge for the land trust community. Conserved land can and should help meet the needs of all people in a rapidly changing world — and this is a key step in supporting that vision for the future.”

Earlier in her career, Miller Herzog served as Maryland grassroots manager at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, where she worked from 2014 to 2016. Before that role, Miller Herzog was the Montana program manager at The Wilderness Society, 2011 to 2013, and program officer at the Wilburforce Foundation, 2001 to 2011.

Miller Herzog holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she graduated summa cum laude. She additionally holds a master’s degree in English literature, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
