The following is a LinkedIn post from Seth Shaner, an advisor for National Franchise Sales and a consultant for P1 Consulting. It is being republished with permission: Regulation is killing the restaurant industry….right!? I disagree.
Last week I was speaking with the owner of a restaurant chain here in CA. He was feeling beat down by regulation, high rents, and other economic pressures. At times like these it can feel overwhelming and we can certainly feel like throwing in the towel.
But the reality is that our industry isn’t going anywhere. There are 330 million people in the US who need to eat every day. They will either eat at home or away from home…and I don’t see cooking classes filling up anytime soon.
Let’s be the solution. Let’s stand up and fight, not just by fighting regulation, but by fighting the urge to throw in the towel, to continue with status quo, and to tell ourselves that it’s not worth it anymore.
It is worth it, and if we aren’t willing to provide what our guests want, then someone else will.
