Green Queen Media: The story of a global food and climate platform that started with one woman's dream of trying to live a greener, healthier life in Hong Kong

LOS ANGELES , August 30, 2024 () –

The platform that is today a key resource for food and climate reporting started over a decade ago as a blog when founder Sonalie Figueiras was trying to live a greener, healthier life in Hong Kong.

"It was hard work," Figueiras recalled. "Putting together an organic meal meant going to three supermarkets and two health food shops. Replenishing bathroom products meant travelling 45 minutes on the MTR to find eco-friendly shampoo. Cleaning my apartment meant convincing my husband that paying an extra 30% more for what seemed like nothing more than lemon and water was in fact going to save our lungs."

But over time, Figueiras' little "green" book of addresses got longer. Convinced that there were others like her out there, she decided to create an online guide where she could share her findings.

"And voila! Green Queen Media was born," she said. The blog eventually became an Asia-wide health and sustainability media before transforming into a global future of food news magazine over five years ago. A news junkie who was passionate about shining light on the many environmental problems that plague the global food system, Figueiras saw a niche fore better quality, well-researched reporting about climate's food problem and the entrepreneurs who were building solutions to fix it.

Today, Green Queen is a multi-channel digital news platform based in Asia featuring award-winning reporting that reaches millions of readers globally with a US and Europe-heavy audience. "Green Queen is the world’s leading food and climate media with a focus on future food innovation and food system decarbonization, one of the most important consumer products and investment opportunities of our time, Figueiras said.

"Our coverage includes breaking news and product launches, in-depth research and industry insights, and exclusive interviews with entrepreneurs and key ecosystem players from every continent," said Figueiras, whose platform is the most visited sustainability media based in Asia with over 20 million monthly digital impressions.

In 2020, 2021 and 2022, Green Queen's annual APAC Alternative Protein Industry Report was awarded the prestigious Best In World Special Awards Prize by the Hallbars Sustainability Reports Awards, a Swedish organisation that recognizes the best planet-led reporting around the world for outstanding contribution to raising awareness about climate change.

In addition to the website, Green Queen's content channels include social channels and a Future Food Weekly newsletter with an accompanying podcast that is read by the who's who of food tech and climate tech, with in-depth content series about key industry trends such as Blended Meat, Ozempic, Meat Misinformation, Carbon Offsets, and Food is Medicine, weekly news and opinion columns, and Brand Case Study reports.

"We INFORM. We INSPIRE. We EMPOWER!" Figueiras said.
