Inc. unveils 2024 Inc. 5000 list featuring 10 pet companies; Maev tops pet sector at No. 38 with 6,743% revenue growth

Inc. has released its 2024 Inc. 5000 list, which showcases the fastest-growing private U.S. businesses throughout various industries. This year’s list features 10 pet companies.

The highest pet nutrition brand on this year’s list at no. 38 is Maev, a human-grade, raw dog food company that also makes supplement bars and bone broth toppers. The company touted revenue growth of 6,743 percent.

Farm Hounds made the list at no. 1,112 with 460 percent revenue growth. Based in Smyrna, Georgia, Farm Hounds specializes in natural dog treats, chews and meal toppers. To develop its products, the company sources raw protein from family farms that practice regenerative agriculture.

Next on the list is Alpha Dog Nutrition at no. 1,247 with 415 percent revenue growth. Based in Neenah, Wisconsin. Alpha Dog Nutrition manufactures premium nutritional supplements for dogs, targeting specific health concerns, including allergies, digestive health, itchy skin, healthy aging and joint health.

Insect-based pet nutrition company Jiminy’s grew by 398 percent during the three years, which places it at no. 1,304 on the list. The company leverages the power of crickets and grubs to create its products and promote sustainability. Jiminy’s offers complete and balanced dog food and treats, and also recently launched its first dental product, Dental Chews.

With a three-year growth rate  of 359 percent, Portland Pet Food Company (PPFC), a woman-owned pet company specializing in human-grade dog meals, cat meals and dog treats, earns the no. 1,430 spot.

Vital Pet Life, another woman-owned company, comes in at no, 2,992 on the list with 167 percent revenue growth. Vital Pet Life is a certified WBENC woman-owned business and a member of rePurpose Global that specializes in fish oil-based supplements for pets.

Making the list at no. 3,774 with 123 percent revenue growth is Prana Pets, a pet supplement manufacturer leveraging herbal oil blends to support health and wellness. Prana’s supplements address specific health concerns in dogs and cats, including Cushing’s disease, hip and joints, liver, gut health, urinary health and more.

For the fifth year in a row, SmarterPaw makes the list, this time at no. 3,803 with 122 percent revenue growth. Headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas, SmarterPaw is the parent company of such pet brands as Meowijuana and Doggijuana, which specialize in catnip-infused products for cats and dogs.

Bow Wow Labs reported 82 percent revenue growth, which puts it at no. 4,739 on the list. Bow Wow Labs is a dog-focused company that offers a variety of natural chews, bully sticks and collagen chews, as well as oral health products for dogs.

Carnivore Meat Company, known for its Vital Essentials brand, is named to the list for the fifth consecutive year, this time with 75 percent revenue growth. Carnivores growth comes as the company continues to expand its operations, including significant growth in Canada and other international markets.

Companies on the 2024 Inc. 5000 are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2020 through 2023. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2020. They must be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies —as of December 31, 2023. Since the period under review, some on the list may have gone public or been acquired. The minimum revenue required for 2020 is $100,000; the minimum for 2023 is $2 million.
