Stahl opens Center of Excellence in Apex, North Carolina; facility supports automotive, apparel, luxury goods sectors as key innovation hub for Performance Coatings business

Waalwijk, The Netherlands, February 6, 2025 – Originally founded in the United States in 1930 as a leather finishing supplier, Stahl has grown into a global leader in speciality coatings for flexible materials. Stahl celebrated a return to its roots with the opening of a new Center of Excellence in Apex, North Carolina. This facility underscores Stahl’s long-standing connection to the US market while driving innovation, sustainability, and collaboration with regional customers.

Key innovation hub
The Apex Center of Excellence will act as a key innovation hub within the global network, supporting industries such as automotive, apparel, luxury goods, packaging, and home furnishings, as part of Stahl’s Performance Coatings business. Equipped with cutting-edge application technology, testing facilities, and pilot production capabilities, it provides a space where customers, OEMs, and brand partners can co-develop and refine advanced solutions tailored to market needs.

Strategic growth in a vital market
North America represents a cornerstone of Stahl’s global strategy, with the US and Canada accounting for nearly 20% of total revenue. Including Central America, this share grows to 25%. The decision to establish the Apex Center of Excellence aligns with Stahl’s commitment to strengthening its presence in this key region. Additionally, the center is set to boost local industry through partnerships with businesses, universities and research institutions, and contribute to job creation and economic growth in North Carolina.
