Evonik Animal Nutrition to unveil PhytriCare IM, a plant-based anti-inflammation product for farm animals, and Ecobiol Fizz, a poultry probiotic, at SPACE 2023 trade fair in Rennes, France; products aim to address health, nutrition challenges in farming

September 5, 2023 (press release) –

• PhytriCare® IM is the first phytogenic product in Evonik’s portfolio: The new premix contains flavonoids that can help manage inflammation in sows, laying hens and dairy cows
• Ecobiol® Fizz is the first probiotic for poultry in effervescent tablet form
• Both products are part of Evonik’s monogastric portfolio addressing health and nutrition challenges

Essen, Germany. Evonik Animal Nutrition is set to showcase new additions to its monogastric portfolio at the upcoming SPACE 2023 international exhibition for animal farming in Rennes, France.

PhytriCare® IM, the first plant-based product in its portfolio, and Ecobiol® Fizz, a probiotic for poultry in effervescent tablet form, are results of the business line’s strategic focus to develop innovative specialties.

Developed in partnership with Dr. Eckel Animal Nutrition, PhytriCare® IM consists of selected plant extracts containing high amounts of flavonoids, which are known for their anti-inflammatory effects. The product is part of Evonik’s health and nutrition portfolio and is available in the EU, with approvals underway in other regions.

“Chronic or prolonged inflammation continues to be one of the serious challenges faced by livestock producers,” says Nicholas Guthier, Regional Vice President EMEA, Evonik Animal Nutrition. “Flavonoids offer a sustainable and effective way to manage inflammation by supporting the natural immune response.”

Without meaningful treatment or intervention, it can develop into chronic or prolonged high-level inflammation. This diverts valuable energy and resources away from growth and performance, making the animal more susceptible to disease. As a result, animal health and welfare suffer, with knock-on consequences for productivity and environmental footprint.

Ecobiol® Fizz contains Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, which helps to stabilize the intestinal microbiota of chickens. Exposure to stressors can negatively affect the microbial balance of birds, making natural alternatives such as probiotics beneficial for overall animal well-being. Ecobiol® Fizz is an effervescent tablet that can be flexibly and easily applied to animals’ water supply during stressful periods.

“Both PhytriCare® IM and Ecobiol® Fizz offer innovative solutions to common challenges in animal nutrition. They aim to improve animal health, thereby increasing efficiency and performance,” says Guthier.

The Evonik team will also be on hand to discuss how the business line is helping achieve sustainable food production. Evonik uses decades worth of expertise and experience to develop its science-based concepts and solutions, helping farmers optimize productivity, maximize profitability, and improve animal health and welfare, sustainably.

SPACE 2023, which runs from September 12-14, is a major event in the industry’s calendar. It brings together animal production stakeholders to discuss the latest innovations and developments in the global animal food sector, and the solutions needed to meet the challenges it faces.

The Evonik booth is located in Hall 9, Stand B42.
