BANGKOK , April 20, 2022 (press release) –

SCG Chemicals or SCGC reinforced its commitment to becoming the "Chemicals Business for Sustainability" through the circular economy and the development of plastic packaging recycling capabilities. It has recently launched its first innovative barrier coating technology for mono-material packaging, enabling flexible packaging such as frozen and chilled food packaging, dry food packaging and refill pouch packaging to be recyclable. The conventional flexible packaging is made from multi-material, making it difficult to be recycled. The solution intends to address plastic packaging issues by facilitating the transition from multi-material plastic packaging to mono-material plastic packaging. This approach will increase recycling efficiency while maintaining the product's qualities. SCGC’s innovative barrier coating technology is the first of its kind in ASEAN to be RecyClass certified and is ready to serve the growing demand for green packaging.

Tanawong Areeratchakul, Chief Executive Officer & President of SCG Chemicals or SCGC, disclosed, "SCGC is taking steps to become the 'Chemicals Business for Sustainability,' with the aim to conducting business following ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SCGC has developed environmentally friendly plastic innovations based on the Circular Economy that maximizes post-consumer plastic recycling by using innovation and advanced technology.High Quality Post-Consumer Recycled Resin: PCR under SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ brand is an example of the green solution.  Additionally, SCGC’s innovative barrier coating technology, certified by RecyClass, is a solution that will offer the flexible packaging manufacturer a more efficient recyclable mono-material plastic packaging in replacement of conventional multi-material packaging while maintaining the quality performance. We are ready to work with brand owners interested in environmentally friendly packaging to increase recycling to together create a sustainable future." Tanawong stated.

SCGC is committed to develop eco-friendly plastic solutions under SCGC GREEN POLYMERTM, encompassing four areas: (1) REDUCE – reducing resource consumption and maximizing resource efficiency; (2) RECYCLABLE – developing solutions to convert packaging from multi-material films to mono-material PE or PP for improved recycling efficiency; (3) RECYCLE – developing solutions to recycle post-consumer plastics  to help reduce waste and resource consumption; and (4) RENEWABLE – developing environmentally friendly bio compostable plastics and plastics made from renewable resources.
