November 8, 2013 () – According to data published by Fresh Plaza, a portal monitoring the fruit and vegetable market, the 8.2 million tonne annual world trade in apples is valued at EU 6.4 billion.

During the past autumn-spring season, Poland selling 1.2 million tonnes outpaced hitherto apple exporter leader China.

"Our growth should be seen as a lasting tendency..." head of the Polish Union of Fruit Growers Miroslaw Maliszewski told the daily.

Maliszewski added that China, producing much more apples than Poland, is now focusing on meeting domestic demand, while a demand barrier is slowing down further growth of Polish apple exports.

"If we do not find new markets our production will grow no more than 5-6 percent per year," said Maliszewski. (PAP)
