LONDON , August 29, 2013 (ICIS Chemical Business ) – A split settlement of US butadiene (BD) contract prices for Aug 2013 has been reached by the four main US BD producers. Two of the producers set their prices at 40 cents/lb, one at 46 cents/lb and the other at 47 cents/lb. The split settlement occurred because no producer actually wanted to sell at prices this low. The price of BD has been decreasing progressively. In Jan 2013 the US BD contract price, among three producers making up roughly 85% of BD production in the US, was 76 cents/lb. The price increased to 84 cents/lb in Mar and Apr 2013. A graph entitled, US BD prices continue to drop steadily, shows BD prices from Aug 2009 to Aug 2013.
