Mohawk Fine Papers Inc. has been presented with the New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA) 2011 Industrial Achievement Award. This award honors New York State industries that have made a corporate commitment to instill effective environmental and water quality management goals. Mohawk joins a distinguished list of past award winners including IBM Corporation, Xerox Corporation, and Eastman Kodak.
Mohawk has a longstanding history of boldly pursuing and practicing sustainable methods of manufacturing. Mohawk was the first in its industry to be Green Seal certified, the first to support windpower projects through the purchase of renewable energy credits and the first to manufacture coated paper with post-consumer waste.
“Environmental responsibility is not a new concept for us. We are constantly examining our operations, asking questions and seeking partnerships to help minimize our environmental impact. We’re proud to receive this award. Each recognition we receive supports the fact that we’re committed to being part of the solution,” said Thomas D. O’Connor, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohawk Fine Papers.
