Viterra commemorates assumption of full operation of grain terminal at the Port of Montreal; terminal has storage capacity of 262,000 tonnes, provides direct shipping routes to Canada, U.S., Europe

MONTREAL , September 27, 2011 (press release) – Viterra Inc. (TSX:VT) (ASX:VTA) today held a grand opening event to officially commemorate its assumption of full operation of the grain terminal at the Port of Montréal. Viterra customers, employees and government and industry officials were in attendance to mark the occasion.

In his remarks to the audience, Mayo Schmidt, President and CEO of Viterra said, "A large and complex infrastructure is needed to handle, market and transport grains and oilseeds around the globe. Strategically located port facilities are critical within Viterra's grain handling and marketing chain. Viterra views the Montreal port terminal as not only a gateway to international markets, but also as a gateway to our Company's future success. The grain terminal is licensed as a transfer elevator by the Canadian Grain Commission and has a storage capacity of 262,000 metric tonnes. The terminal's location enables it to operate year round. Serviced by a port railway, it has direct access to both CN and CP rail networks. It also provides direct shipping routes to various destinations in Canada, the US and Europe.

The agreement was signed following a selection process led by the Montréal Port Authority, and successful due diligence conducted by Viterra. On May 2, 2011, Viterra further strengthened its presence in Eastern Canada by opening a new merchandising office in Montreal to source and market food ingredients to key destination markets in Canada, the US and Europe, while complementing terminal operations by facilitating the efficient movement of grains and oilseeds through its value-added pipeline.
